PROCEDURE

For ferroalloy production, a submerged Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is used, loaded with selected and sized raw materials, such as quartz, wood, charcoal and ores. During the process, these raw materials melt and chemically react. The product that leaves the furnace is a molten metal, such as silicon, ferrosilicon, ferronickel, thermal phosphorus, and zirconium. These molten metals are cooled and further processed into the appropriate size and grade for various applications.

EAF COKE

Based on the application, Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Coke, in contrast with normal blast furnace coke and foundry coke, is unique, which requires lower CSR (Coke Strength after Reaction), higher CRI (Coke Reactivity Index) and proper Electric Resistivity as well.

This material has been widely used in the applications for Electric Furnaces in production of Steel, Ferro Alloys, Graphites, Refractories and Fertiliser industries. Coke is also added to steel ladles to re-carburize the melt after discharge from the furnace.

SLAG FOAMER

Coke can also be used as Slag Foamer. The technique of foaming slag in the EAF for steel industry is used to increase productivity while lowering operating costs. Productivity enhancement comes from the improved electrical energy transfer from the insulating value of foamed slag, which protects refractories and electrode tips from the intense radiant heat of the arc. Slag is foamed by the introduction of carbon to the slag.

The selection of a charging carbon is determined by the quality requirements of the steel or ferroalloy production e as well as the cost and availability of carbon products. Due to its high carbon content, low and consistent S/P content, and its porous structure, which allows hot metal to enter the tiny fissures to devour its carbon content quicker, coke is always the best choise for the furnace operation in slag foaming or in carbon adjustment, not mention the less costly and convenient.
